FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGREES TO LIFT BAN ON TWITTER

Nigerians are about to start using Twitter again freely without the aid of Virtual Private Network (VPN) as the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has announced that the ban on the social media platform would soon be lifted.

It can be recalled that federal government suspended Twitter on June 4, 2021 after it erased a post from President Muhammadu Buhari that threatened to punish regional secessionists, and some telecoms companies had blocked access to users in Nigeria.

In Mohammed’s own words, "The ban on Twitter will soon be lifted as we are getting close to reaching full agreement. We have agreed on some areas. Hopefully in the next few days or weeks we will conclude."

According to Alhaji Mohammed, Twitter has agreed to establish an office in the country which was one of the preconditions given to the social media platform before the ban would be lifted.
